Why Bamboo? |

Bamboo - For your Baby
Softness - The bamboo fiber used to make our products, at microscopic levels, has a round surface which makes the fabric incredibly soft and luxurious feeling. Bamboo Bebe clothing will keep your baby snug and comfortable.
Antibacterial - Bamboo fiber contains a natural anti-bacterial agent known as 'bamboo kun', this prevents bacteria from cultivating on the fiber. Bamboo kun allows clothing made from the fiber to remain fresher smelling longer and inhibits the growth of bacteria.
Breathable and Thermal Regulating - Bamboo fiber is filled with various micro-gaps and micro-holes making it breathable and increases its ability to absorb moisture. Bamboo Bebe clothing will keep your baby warmer in cold weather and cooler in hot weather because of its thermal regulating properties, making it ideal for year round use.
Hypo-Allergenic and Non-Irritating - Because our bamboo products are manufactured in a chemical free process, are dyed using azo-free dyes and bamboo fiber's inherent softness and antibacterial properties, bamboo clothing is perfect you baby's new delicate skin.
Azo Free – The bamboo clothing sold by Pur Bébé is dyed using strictly azo-free dyes.
Azo dyes and pigments have been known to be toxic and may contain possible carcinogens. It is estimated that azo dyes make up 70% of dyes use to color fabric. As well, azo dyes and pigments are resistant to biodegradation making them difficult to remove from our ecosystem.
Pur Bébé sold clothing is manufactured using physical processing methods such as steaming and boiling and contains no chemical additives. Discharge from production is filtered and reclaimed. In addition, strict international environmental protecting standards for exhaust emissions are in place and all indexes have been met.
The bamboo used to make this clothing is grown on plantations and none of the fiber comes from tropical forests, so it is Panda friendly. The plantations are managed in strict accordance with the international organic standard of OCIA/NOP, ensuring our fiber is grown without the use of chemical pesticide and is 100% naturally grown.
OCIA International is one of the world's oldest, largest and most trusted leaders in the organic certification industry. A nonprofit, member-owned, agricultural organization, OCIA is dedicated to providing the highest quality organic certification services and access to global organic markets. www.ocia.org
Bamboo - For the Environment
Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth!
As the fastest growing plant in the world, bamboo grows to its maximum height in about 3 months and can be harvested in 3-5 years. Bamboo does not require assistance from the use of pesticides or insecticides for growth, it is grown 100% naturally. The yield from an acre of bamboo is 10 times greater than the yield from an acre of cotton. 10% of the world pesticide and 25% of the world insecticide is used for the growth of cotton.
Bamboo is a grass, harvested by cutting, this allows the root system to remain intact, and new shoots are able to re-grow quickly.
Bamboo is a renewable resource, it can regenerate without replanting and is 100% biodegradable. Bamboo can be planted in degraded and over burdened land and regenerate soil condition from its dense litter, encouraging healthy topsoil and restoring nutrients to the land for future agricultural use.
Bamboo produces approximately 30-35% more oxygen than hardwood forests of comparable size. It can help reduce carbon dioxide gases, with some varieties of bamboo helping to remove up to 12 tons of harmful carbon dioxide gases from our air, per hectare.
Bamboo root systems improve watersheds, prevent soil erosion and remove toxins from contaminated soil. Because bamboo has an extensive root system and bamboo shoots and leaves provide a large canopy, it greatly reduces rain run-off, reducing soil erosion and retains water in watershed areas. Bamboo helps reduce wastewater and soil pollution because it has a high nitrogen consumption rate.
From the growth of bamboo, through manufacturing into clothing, use and disposal, bamboo is the natural choice for your baby's clothing. Natural, luxurious and biodegradable, help us inspire change for our children's futures.
